• The Varietals

  

  A varietal is a type of vine which possesses its own physical characteristics and aroma. Varietals produce the fruit responsible for the unique colour, taste and smell of a wine. A varietal creates the character of a wine, gives it its own unique shape and look. Some wines are characterised purely by their varietal, placing such things as region, appellation and soil in second place. It is these wines that we call 'Varietals'.

  Each wine region has its own specific location, climate, soil, tradition and culture which is what gives each wine its complex and individual identity. Identifying wines by their regions takes us on a journey of discovery to different parts of the world, each with their own unique techniques and traditions of local winemaking.

  A wine producer is a man or woman who is passionate about their work, it is someone with a charisma, an energy and a philosophy about wine. Identifying a wine by its producer means giving it a signature, a stamp, an ideology. Wine producers help us to discover the specific techniques involved in the production of wine, and to appreciate the way in which it is cultivated.
