Both the SOHLER and the STEINBACH families have cultivated the grape vine for some centuries. The Philippe SOHLER Estate is a family-run wine farming operation that dates back through several generations of wine growers.

LOCATION

The picturesque wine growing village, NOTHALTEN is located in the heart of the Alsatian wine growing region, between the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle and Mount Ste Odile, halfway between Strasbourg and Colmar.

ESTATE

The appellations produced by the estate are:

  • A.O.C ALSACE
  • A.O.C ALSACE GRAND CRU (superior vine from a specific hill)
  • A.O.C. CREMANT d’ALSACE
  • VENDANGES TARDIVES (LATE HARVEST)

We are responsible for all of our production, the estate only sells wine originating from our own vines. We take into account the impressive diversity of our land when cultivating each of the Alsatian grape vine varieties:

  • Sylvaner,
  • Pinot Blanc,
  • Muscat,
  • Pinot Gris,
  • Riesling,
  • Gewurztraminer,
  • Pinot Noir.

THE VINEYARDS

Our wine is grown in an area of 10 Hectares of AOC vines, in 40 parcels, spread out between 5 different communes (Nothalten, Blienschwiller, Epfig, Andlau and Reichsfeld). These 40 small tracts of land, brought together, represent an impressive diversity of soils, sub-soils, sunlight exposure and climate.

Hills, some of which are very steep, account for 80% of where our vines grow. Soil diversity (sandstone, granite, chalk, clay, shale) allow for an optimal adaptation of the different Alastian vine varieties.
