I think they are two types of organic wine growers. Some are very serious and know wine so they make good wine but not because it's organic. The other make organic wine but they are new wine growers and their wines can be really bad.

Aren't all French "appellations" pretty much organic anyways, just because of the strict rules that are required to have an "appellation?" |

It might be politically incorrect to state but.... I don't think organic food tastes better, is better or has much effect on anything besides my pocketbook. As far as regular food goes, I think that organic food is just a new marketing technique for western developed countries. It makes us "feel good" but it doesn't really accomplish anything. If you think that making LESS food and using MORE resources per square acre is a good thing, tell that to people dying of hunger. From what I've read, at least in the States, the regulations for being considered "organic" are pretty arbitrary. Some, "Organic" committee gives itself authenticity and puts it's "Organic" label on food _made_by_the_exact_same_huge_agri-business companies that give you the regular, cheaper food. People think that "Organic" foods don't have pesticides. Actually, they do, they are just "organic" pesticides that don't work as well as synthetic ones so, sometimes organic farmers have to put more of them on their crops. If you find an organic wine that's good... cool, post a review. But good winemakers know how to make good wine because of tradition, experience, reputation and science, not because of some trendy, feel-good label. I wonder if a vintage of 1900 $20,000 Chateaux Margaux would be considered 'organic' by today's standards.... |
